When parents separate and live in two different places, many things change
How the Court and Counsellors can help you understand the court process.
It can be a confusing time, but they still care for you just as much as before.
Parents usually have to make some decisions about what is going to happen.
They have to think about where everyone will live and maybe how to divide up the things they own. They also have to make decisions about you - like when you will spend time with each of them, what you will do on holidays and so on.
When parents can't agree about what should happen, they ask a counsellor (or family consultant) to help them work things out. If they still can't agree, they can also ask a judge of the Family Court to make some decisions for them.
The Family Court is where families who are separating/living apart go to sort things out for themselves and their children. This makes it different from other Courts.
