Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
Indigenous Legal Aid Services
Indigenous legal aid services include information, initial legal advice, minor assistance and referral and duty lawyer assistance and legal casework for criminal, civil and family law matters.Prospective clients seeking legal casework services will be subject to a means and a merits test.
There is a single Indigenous legal aid service provider for each State and Territory, other than in Queensland and the Northern Territory where there are two Indigenous legal aid service providers. Each provider has a number of regional sub‑offices.
For a full list of Indigenous legal aid service providers and their sub‑offices see the Attorney‑General’s Department’s Indigenous Legal Aid Services page.
