Missing children

Media and public assistance is occasionally requested to help locate and recover children who have been abducted by a parent.

The Courts issue publication orders under s 121 of the Family Law Act to allow publication and broadcast of identifying information about missing children and the people they are thought to be with. The order usually lasts until the child is found.

For more information on children currently subject to publication orders, including photographs and media releases go to the missing children section of the relevant court at Website Links.

For more information on reporting missing children, go to ‘In this section – Frequently asked questions’ on this page.
