Interpreter and translation services

If you have difficulty with English and need to attend the Family Law Courts, call 1300 352 000 or your case coordinator (if you have one) to ask for an interpreter to be booked. This service is free.

Translators

If you need translated documents for the courts, they must be translated by a qualified translator.

Some state governments have translation and interpreting services. These usually require payment:

NSW: Community Relations Commission 1300 651 500 or www.crc.nsw.gov.au

VICTORIA: Victorian Interpreting and Language Services (VITS) is a Victorian State Business Corporation: (03) 9280 1941 or www.vits.com.au

South Australia: Interpreting and Translation Centre: (08) 8226 1990 or www.translate.sa.gov.au.

The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) is the national organisation which accredits interpreters and translators. When using a private translator, look for NAATI accreditation. To find a translator, use NAATI's online directory at www.naati.com.au or phone 1300 557 470.
