Subpoena : Information for named person (Prescribed Brochure)
This brochure is for people who have been served with a subpoena (the named person). A subpoena is a legal document issued by a court at the request of a party to a case. A subpoena compels a person to produce documents or give evidence at a hearing or trial.
* This is a prescribed brochure. When certain applications are filed, the Rules require the Court to give specific brochures to the person filing the application (the applicant). The Rules also require the applicant to provide specific brochures, along with other court documents, to the other party (the respondent). These are known as 'prescribed' brochures.
NOTE: there are special rules covering subpoenas issued in New Zealand and served in Australia. They can be found in Part 3 of the Evidence and Procedure (New Zealand) Act 1994.
